Introducing our Adolescent Health Program
Empowering the youth of our communities through education about things that matter.
We are proud to introduce our Adolescent Health Program!
In our communities, the lack of information about sexual health often results in creating even greater challenges in life. Early pregnancy, for instance, can lead to child malnutrition, since youth is often unprepared, in both finances and knowledge, to raise new lives.
We want the youth of our communities to be in full control of their lives, and that includes being informed about their choices. That is how the Adolescent Health Program became an idea, and has now become a reality. We put together a team of four promoters and one coordinator to be in charge of the program. Our team recruited participants from local schools with their parents' authorization.
Adolescent Health was officially launched on April 18th in San Juan La Laguna and on April 19th in San Pablo La Laguna, and has recruited 15 enthusiastic participants in each town.
The aim is to meet weekly and teach participants about healthy romantic relationships and communication, sexual anatomy, puberty, sex and sexual orientation, menstruation, unplanned pregnancies, drugs, contraception, self esteem, STDs, family planning and many other crucial subjects.
Adolescent Health will also provide participants with school supplies. The participants will present a final project in which they will be asked to share their knowledge with their peers in school and receive a diploma.
We want to thank the Community Health and Education Programs team for putting together a very needed pensum for the youth of San Juan and San Pablo La Laguna.
