COME WORK WITH US! We are looking for a Fundraising & Communications Manager to effectively lead, manage, coordinate and monitor all fundraising and external communication activities in the organization in order to increase funding for our programs and maintain effective relationships with donors.

The job is based in San Juan la Laguna, Guatemala.

At Organization for the Development of the Indigenous Maya (ODIM) we provide community-driven, high quality and culturally competent health and education services to the indigenous communities of San Juan and San Pablo la Laguna in Guatemala. Our services include two medical clinics as well as a dental clinic. With the intention of preventing ill health, an elevated quality of life and creating sustainable change, we also have five community health and education programs. We employ 48 staff in the two communities of San Juan and San Pablo la Laguna - 86% of which are Tz’utujil Maya.

Major Responsibilities

Fundraising
Responsible for the steering and implementation of the fundraising strategy, including:

Further improve/find new tactics to recruit regular donors
Research potential new funding streams and connect with grant-making institutions/corporates.
Complete grant proposals
Report to existing donors & foundations
Create and implement creative fundraising campaigns (online)
In collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator, further improve and develop activities to convert volunteers into donors
Work with the Executive Director to build and maintain relationship with Corporates, Foundations and major donors.
Maintain the online database of donors/supporters
Identify and execute potential fundraising events and activities for ODIM

Communications
Responsible for the steering and implementing of the external communication strategy in order to support fundraising, including:

Improve the visibility of ODIM’s work and activities through website and social media
Optimize website visibility and increase number of website users
Engage and grow social media community of supporters (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
Responsible for the website functionality, update and security.
Conceptualize and create communication materials including quarterly e-newsletter, email campaigns, videos, blog articles, reports
Develop and run events if/when time for value (visibility and fundraising) is positive.
Manage visual branding, ensuring consistency
Manage and maintain regular communication with ODIM’s donor and supporter base.

Finance and Administration
Prepare budget for communications activities on a per project and annual basis
Monitor our communications and fundraising outputs and produce quarterly fundraising reports

Requirements and qualifications

Essential:
A University degree in communications or marketing
A minimum of one year of practical communications, marketing or fundraising experience
Skilled creative writer and strong attention to detail
Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish language skills.
Comfortable working independently and spearheading new fundraising initiatives
Experience with branding and production of printed and online materials.

Desirable:
Experience in developing successful fundraising campaigns and initiatives
Experience in maintaining databases, updating websites and managing social media
Experience in financial management and reporting
Understands current best-practices for nonprofit development
Experience living in the developing world
An understanding of the development context in Guatemala and the challenges faced by the indigenous peoples in Guatemala
Experience in grant writing
Good knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
